Felted Things

This is Jorge, and he gets paid delicious little treats to be a bag. He is also entirely made of wool, with more and more being added to his body.

These two are highlights from the felted stars series. They are as cosmic as starfish, having no real attachment to space, and are merely resembling space iconography. Sitting on any surface, they act as a woolen talisman that welcome in spirits instead of turn them away.

This ambitious project started when the artist wanted a handmade Crawdaunt plush. Each individual piece is modeled in polyfil to create a basic core skeleton,  which were then covered in swathes of red wool. The most tedious part in the entire process was the detailing. Crawdaunt is an aggressive Pokemon, meaning it would certainly gotten into a few fights resulting in scarring and damage to its outer shell. The artist also thought the star on its head could be added to other sections of the design, (Other stars, like barnacles) so the yellow is more consistent and gives your eyes a break from all of the red.

Schnecken is a German cinnamon roll that means snail. As a lover of snails, and whimsical little pastries, the artist combined the pastry itself and the mollusk it is named after to create the Schnecken Schnecke. Starting with a core made of polyfil or stuffing the artist creates a rough shape to create a soft skeleton. The core serves to make the project overall much cleaner and dense, because the colored fibers have a stronger base to cling to. The artist wanted to match a real Shenecken’s colors as much as possible, as well as having the snail’s head and tail to be connected to the main spiral of the pastry, so it appears as though the Schnecken is coming undone. Smaller details like teeth are done off to the side (the most important step.)
